Becker holds a degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Santa Maria (1997), a Master&#8217;s degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1999), and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (2003). In 2012, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Northeastern University, USA. Since 2004, he has been a professor in the Department of Automation and Systems (DAS) at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), where he is also affiliated with the Graduate Program in Automation and Systems Engineering (PPGEAS). He supervises master&#8217;s and doctoral research on topics related to the design of real-time embedded systems, as well as wireless network communications. He serves on several program committees for conferences in the field of embedded and real-time systems and is also a reviewer for various national and international journals in computer science. He was a member of the committee that established the Brazilian Symposium on Computer Systems (SBESC) and the Special Committee on Computer Systems Engineering (CE-ESC) at the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC). He currently serves as the coordinator of this committee (2014\u20132016).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This tutorial presents the fundamentals of the Robot Operating System (ROS), a collection of software libraries and tools that facilitate robot development.
